These two American dudes need to get a grip.
Here’s why that’s not funny: if a culture holds a certain site or emblem with high regard, shouldn’t we, as tourists, mere visitors to their country, hold it in the same manner?
Anyway, two “bros” on vacation in Thailand decided to expose their buttocks at the religious site of Wat Arun, or Temple of Dawn.
Good Morning America reported that Travis and Joseph Dasilva, both 38, were taken into custody by immigration police at Don Mueang International Airport as they were trying to leave the country Tuesday evening.
The Dasilvas were apparently running an Instagram account called Travelling_Butts; where they just literally go to different places and take photos with their buttocks exposed.
Their account has since been taken down.
The report added that the Thai government considered it a public indecency, more so that it was done at a place where many Thais worship and the two could face jail time.
“The charge would not be a normal public indecency charge. Instead, they would be charged with committing indecency in a place of worship, which carries a long jail term,” the government statement read. “This is a reminder that everyone should have respect for Thai religion and culture.”
Signs outside the temple ask tourists to wear modest outfits that cover their shoulders and knees.
Good Morning America also quoted a report from the San Diego Gay and Lesbian News added that the two have reached out to San Diego City Commissioner Nicole Murray- Ramirez for assistance and that he already spoke to American authorities in Thailand.
“Though I am very disappointed in their actions, I am talking to U.S. government officials to see what assistance we can give them,” Ramirez said.
